HIGH VOLTAGE NEWS. 2015-02 | Nobel Prize 2015 | ESS Series | Events (MPGD, IEEE NPSS)

Dear [Title] [Vorname] [Nachname],

this year the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics to Takaaki Kajita (Super-Kamiokande Collaboration, University of Tokyo, Japan) and Arthur B. McDonald (Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Collaboration, Queen´s University, Canada) for "the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass".

Congratulations! What an accomplishment!

Since 2013 the Super - Kamiokande experiment is equipped with iseg High Voltage supplies (510 EDS modules with 12,000 HV channels, case study as PDF). So we hope, our hardware helps finding further insights to fundamental research in future.

Beside the research of fundamental interactions of matter in High Energy Physics, detectors and particle accelerators become more and more important in the industrial and medical sector. Therefore iseg develops special hardware solutions. Using the example of the ESS module series we would like to take a closer look...

ESS 2 qudrant high voltage supply

ESS HV module series for Quadrupol lenses

For focussing of high accelerated particles usually electrostatic Quadrupol lenses are applied. During operation the beam could hit these lenses, so excessive charge must be removed from the lense. Usually this is done with a discharge resistor, which however has the drawback of a relatively high power dissipation.

The iseg ESS HV supply series is specially developed and optimized for the use with Quadrupol lenses without need of a discharge resistor.

The ESS is compact and perfect for long time operation and is able to discharge a nominal current of 4 mA even under low voltages.

ESS series for capacitive loads

The operation of capacitive loads with high edge steepness requires the supply of the necessary load power and the possibility to discharge the energy stored in the capacitor.

The 2-quadrant operation mode of ESS series enables driving dynamic voltage curves even under capacitive loads very energy efficient without the use of a discharge resistor.
